Dialogue

Image
The dialogue project was another fun animation to work on due to the fact that it added auditory aspects that gave the character more personality. The audio I chose what from a Psychicpebbles in OneyPlays who is also the character I chose to animate. As a lets play channel there are many animatics of characters from OneyPlays and I took a lot of inspiration from the some of the shots and styles on these animations. I found that adding less in between for the mouth made the animation less choppy and flow smoother.

Walk Cycle

Image
The walk cycle was a fun project in understanding the movements of limbs and how the movement of an objects affects their accessories. For my character I was originally going to has a snail that would slide into frame and then have it pick himself up to then reval legs as they would begin to walk. I soon realized that I wouldn't have time to do everything I wanted so I focused primarily on the walk itself. With having a character whose waist was inside their shell I ran into some difficulties with the snails legs shrinking and growing in some frames. This was a minor setback but I was able to overcome it by copying and pacing the length of a leg on multiple frames to have a more consistent look.

Weight

Image
The weight project was possibly my favorite animation I made for this class. The character I chose was Quest Sprout from an online comic series called "Swords" by Matthew Wills. The main goal of this animation was to simulate the weight of an objects so I decided to have Quest pull a wooden sword from the ground. By having Quest slowly pull and then snap to the sword swinging high in the air gave the perception that the sword was stuck in the ground and required a lot of effort to pull it out.

Flour Sack Animation

Image
The flour sack animation was an excellent project where I was able to introduce timing, spacing, and followthrough action all together to create a moving character. Animating a simple character that consisted of only a torso was relatively simple due to the fact that I did not have to worry about limb and head movement. Instead the corners of the flour sack acted as limbs which would carry the character movement.

Flour Sack Gestures

Image
While creating the character for the flour animation I knew I wanted to have a character with smooth edges due to the fact that I drew all of my animations with a mouse using the line tool. I took inspiration from the flying carpet in Aladdin and other Disney animations. I found the design that I chose to allow my character to have more fluid expressions as their body was one shape rather than two.

Overlapping Action and Followthrough

Bouncing Ball

Image
The process of animating a bouncing ball was fundamental to learning the squash and stretch physics of an object. In this project, designing the stage and path of the ball was the most difficult part but once I figured that out the process of drawing the ball on its path was relatively easy. In animating the ball I found how stretching and squashing adds noticeable effects to the time and speed of the animation.
